Frequently Asked Questions

  • Great question! We define values as the things that are most important to you in life. Values can be qualities or personal characteristics you choose to live by (kindness, honesty, empathy), or various aspects of your life that you care about (family, friendship, health). Some values inventories define the scope of values as only personal characteristics or only aspects of your life, but in our experience many people’s core values include a mix of both types of values; we chose to include the whole range so you can too!

  • Knowing your core values gives you a deeper sense of self-awareness and identity, helps guide your decision-making, and can contribute to more meaningful relationships. When you’re clear on your core values, you're more likely to make choices that align with your true self. This can lead to greater personal fulfillment and satisfaction, as well as more meaningful relationships with others who share similar values. Knowing your core values is like having a life compass; it allows you to focus on what's most important to you and make intentional choices that support your personal and professional growth.

  • Knowing what the people in your life value can help you build stronger relationships and communicate more effectively. When you understand what's important to someone, you are more able to empathize with them and can tailor your interactions to better align with their values, which can lead to greater mutual understanding and respect. It can also help you identify potential areas of conflict and work proactively to find solutions that work for everyone involved. Ultimately, understanding other people’s values can help you build deeper and more meaningful connections, both personally or professionally.

  • Goals are specific and measurable objectives that are usually focused on achieving a desired outcome or result - such as completing a project, buying a house, or acquiring a specific job title.

Values, on the other hand, are the beliefs, principles, and ideals that are most important to you in life. They are the guiding principles that help you make decisions and live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Values are more about the journey than the destination, and they don't necessarily have a specific end point or outcome. Instead, they are about living in alignment with what matters most to you and what you believe is important in life.

Clarifying your core values allows you to shift your focus from a goal-focused to a values-driven life. Letting your values be the driving force of your life can make a big difference in your presence, flexibility, and overall life satisfaction. Here’s a great video explaining the difference between values and goals!
